Does anyone know which weight-lifting exercises are most important for runners to incorporate into their training? Is it safe to lift weights and run on the same day, or should the two activities be alternated? It seems like running would place enough of a demand on the legs, where it might not even be necessary to lift leg weights...is this true? Also, how might a runner benefit from upper-body weight lifting?

It's always a good idea to spend some time focusing on your body's core - the stronger your abs and back are, the better your running posture will be.
